Designing for our future is difficult: what might be new technologies, what are new trends, what kind of products and services will succeed on the market? We don’t presently know the answers to these questions, but we know worldwide growth will have an impact on the future of our children. As designers, we must become more aware of the impact we cause in a complex world we do not fully understand.
We invite and challenge you to join this unavoidable discussion during ICED19’s – Responsible Design for our Future. ICED19 will focus on engineering design in collaboration with other disciplines as the backbone of our future – a future that seems to become more complex, more dynamic, more interactive, and more time-critical. We must learn to replace short term thinking by an integrated view on people’s quality of life on a long-term scale.
Let’s make Delft the arena where researchers and practitioners with an interdisciplinary mindset can bring together different perspectives to address a common goal: striving for responsible innovation. Only with a shift towards long-term thinking can we achieve a higher quality of life that integrates cultural, social, technological, economic, environmental and educational developments.
