MLA 2021 is going virtual, from 7 to 10 January; hundreds of sessions will take place online. We hope you'll join us and embrace the presidential theme (announced in January) of Persistence. Registration is open!
While we are working to ensure this convention has many of the elements you're used to, we are also excited to see how hosting MLA 2021 online will allow new modes of participation and encourage even more members to get involved. We have increased the number of just-in-time sessions and invite your submissions. The convention reflects the best intellectual energies of so many MLA members, and we are committed to creating a substantial platform to facilitate the exchange of ideas while ensuring the safety of our community. Please check here and on the MLA news site for the latest updates on the convention, and we look forward to seeing you online in January.
All MLA members and others involved in the study or teaching of language and literature must register for the convention to participate in and attend the online meeting. Nonmembers who join the MLA while registering for the convention are entitled to register at members’ rates. Registration includes access to all sessions and to recordings of sessions you may have missed.
Your registration covers the cost of providing video-conferencing technology that supports a meeting of hundreds of sessions, many simultaneous, and of the technology company needed to manage a conference of this size. It also covers the labor of the MLA staff members who work year round to make the convention a rewarding experience for attendees—whether it's held in person or online. As always, discounted rates are available for students and part-time faculty members or unemployed members, and grants are available to cover the registration costs of members in those categories. Because attendees won't have the travel and hotel costs, we hope the overall cost of participating in the convention will be significantly lower.
Application deadline for grants to attend the January 2021 convention: December 1st 2020
