Small Farm Conference 2018

The Indiana Small Farm Conference is an annual educational and farmer-to-farmer networking event hosted by Purdue Extension.

Below is a list of confirmed events for Thursday, March 1. The speakers and workshops for March 2-3 are still being finalized, so check back for more information on November 1.

Tour:

Four Season Farm Tour | March 1

Participate in a tour of Indiana farms utilizing season extension to produce and market vegetables and flowers through all four seasons.

Workshops:

On-Farm Fresh Produce Food Safety | March 1

The Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training provides the opportunity to learn about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices (GPA), and co-management of food safety and natural resources.

Pasture-based Permaculture Systems | March 1

Discover how to utilize the herbivores in the ecological system as they were from the beginning. Rotational grazing is the practice of regularly moving livestock between pastures called paddocks. Regenerative agriculture is the process of recovering the land through the use of livestock. Agroforestry ties in how to incorporate trees into the system. This workshop focuses on how to work within the confines of our ecological systems to produce things that we need.

Farm Viability and Financial Management | March 1

Learn how to make your farm stand the test of time through the use of sound practices. This workshop covers topics from social, economic, and environmental perspectives. The farm planning focus will help you prepare your farm for changes and challenges while remaining viable.
